N gauge locomotive next to an apple — demonstrating the tiny scale of these models
That’s a real model!

Ian runs Mercig Studios from his workshop in Weaverham, Cheshire, specialising in N gauge model railway weathering. Each locomotive is finished by hand, signed underneath the body and supplied in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. Model railway manufacturer Dapol has used Mercig masters as the basis for its ready-to-run weathered models.

The photographs are an important part of showing that work. Ian wanted visitors to be able to explore his models in detail, and he wanted to manage the galleries himself. We built the site around his portfolio and added bespoke tools for uploading, organising and captioning his photographs.

How we helped

Built around
what they needed.

  • A portfolio organised into 46 galleries of Ian’s model photography
  • Close-up and scale comparison photographs to show the detail of his work
  • Information about the models and the work produced for Dapol
  • A private gallery admin area Ian can use from his phone or computer

Ian’s preference was to add and organise his own photographs. We built a password-protected area where he can upload images, arrange galleries and add captions. The site handles image storage and preparation for display. This gallery system was a bespoke part of the project, built around how Ian wanted to work.

The website today

See it for yourself.

Visitors can browse Ian’s work by gallery and look closely at the finish of individual models. Ian can add new photographs and maintain the collection himself, using tools made for that job. The site gives his portfolio a home that he can keep up to date as he completes more work.
